Summary

The end draws near。。。。

The Last Battle has started。 The seals on the Dark One’s prison are crumbling。 The Pattern itself is unraveling, and the armies of the Shadow have begun to boil out of the Blight。

The sun has begun to set upon the Third Age。

Perrin Aybara is now hunted by specters from his past: Whitecloaks, a slayer of wolves, and the responsibilities of leadership。 All the while, an unseen foe is slowly pulling a noose tight around his neck。 To prevail, he must seek answers in Tel’aran’rhiod and find a way--at long last--to master the wolf within him or lose himself to it forever

Meanwhile, Matrim Cauthon prepares for the most difficult challenge of his life。 The creatures beyond the stone gateways--the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn--have confused him, taunted him, and left him hanged, his memory stuffed with bits and pieces of other men’s lives。 He had hoped that his last confrontation with them would be the end of it, but the Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills。 The time is coming when he will again have to dance with the Snakes and the Foxes, playing a game that cannot be won。 The Tower of Ghenjei awaits, and its secrets will reveal the fate of a friend long lost。

This penultimate novel of Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling series--the second of three based on materials he left behind when he died in 2007--brings dramatic and compelling developments to many threads in the Pattern。 The end draws near。

Dovie’andi se tovya sagain。 It’s time to toss the dice。

Surprisingly disappointed in this one after the relatively excellent Gathering Storm。 That's not to say that the momentum Sanderson has added to the series is wasted, there's a handful of *great* scenes here, especially with Perrin and a little with Mat - but the core of the book is honestly back in 7-10 era 'armies moving around'。。。 We get to a good conclusion but god seeing all the pieces set up for the finale is endless。 Surprisingly disappointed in this one after the relatively excellent Gathering Storm。 That's not to say that the momentum Sanderson has added to the series is wasted, there's a handful of *great* scenes here, especially with Perrin and a little with Mat - but the core of the book is honestly back in 7-10 era 'armies moving around'。。。 We get to a good conclusion but god seeing all the pieces set up for the finale is endless。 。。。more

Again, so freaking good! I liked The Gathering Storm more, but this was also very good with such an ending!

One book to go and I can't believe I've come to the end of this series! Towers of Midnight was one of my favourites in the series so I'm sooo happy it's ending on a high! The different plots lines are all tying together nicely, the character archs are wonderful, the pacing was excellent! Can't wait for the final - I'm excited but a bit sad too! 4。5I should round it down to 4 for having Elaine's boring story so close to the climax。 4。5I should round it down to 4 for having Elaine's boring story so close to the climax。 。。。more

One of the better books in the series。 Had some good action, especially toward the end。

Mona

I really enjoyed this one 👍🏼

Richard

Not as strong as the previous two entries of the series due to some pretty severe issues, however the momentum from the last couple of hundred pages saves it and sets up an almighty conclusion with book 14。

I am loving this series as a whole but struggling with individual books。 Rand is becoming one of my favorite fantasy heroes across all genres。 His hero journey so far is more difficult and on a scale that I have never seen before。 I just wish this series was only 10 books long and all of the fluff was cut。 It reminds me of a TV show that really should have ended a few seasons ago but they're finally pulling it together for a good finale。Rand is my favorite character because of how he portrays th I am loving this series as a whole but struggling with individual books。 Rand is becoming one of my favorite fantasy heroes across all genres。 His hero journey so far is more difficult and on a scale that I have never seen before。 I just wish this series was only 10 books long and all of the fluff was cut。 It reminds me of a TV show that really should have ended a few seasons ago but they're finally pulling it together for a good finale。Rand is my favorite character because of how he portrays the hero's journey。 An unsuspecting shepherd (Christ reference?) is forced to cross the threshold and slowly come to accept his calling as the chosen one。 Because it's done across so many books he has such a steady progression into a king and a warrior。 All of his battle wounds, responsibilities, and mental weights defy him at every step but somehow he is dragging himself in pieces one step at a time to Tarmon Gai'don where he knows he will be killed。 Because he is a king but did not grow up as nobility, he does not know diplomacy and political tact。 All he knows is his mission and that the world will be destroyed if they do not unite。 That drives him to deal harsh punishment and have no patience or pity for insubordination。 At the end of the gathering storm, Rand sits atop dragon mount (another Christ reference?) to exhale one final time before making the plunge to the last battle and completely accept his calling。 After that point, the next book was never told in his voice。 This was intentionally exhalting him to the status of legend。 It took him 12 books to completely accept his calling as the chosen one。 When he does, the voices in his head retreat, he is more forgiving yet commanding, and we don't hear about his hubrises。I'm excited to be on the last book and can't wait to see how all of this ends。 。。。more

The penultimate book of the Wheel of Time was brilliant, both as a setup for the finale (which I can't wait to start reading) and as a highly engaging and action-packed novel in its own right。 From start to finish, this was an absolute joy to read。 I loved Rand's character during this book; even though he doesn't get a POV until the epilogue, his character growth in the last book is accented by his companion's internal reactions to his actions in this book (I loved his meetings with (view spoile The penultimate book of the Wheel of Time was brilliant, both as a setup for the finale (which I can't wait to start reading) and as a highly engaging and action-packed novel in its own right。 From start to finish, this was an absolute joy to read。 I loved Rand's character during this book; even though he doesn't get a POV until the epilogue, his character growth in the last book is accented by his companion's internal reactions to his actions in this book (I loved his meetings with (view spoiler)[Egwene and Tam Al'Thor (hide spoiler)])。 Speaking of Egwene, her actions as Amyrlin are once again a highlight, and the (view spoiler)[battle in Tel'aran'rhiod involving both her and Perrin (hide spoiler)] was perhaps my favourite part of the book。 (view spoiler)[I particularly loved Egwene's reaction when Perrin wills BALEFIRE (perhaps the most overpowered weapon in all of fantasy) out of existence。 (hide spoiler)] Mat's storyline was also very enjoyable。 Sanderson still doesn't quite manage to capture Mat's voice in my opinion, but it's still very good and (view spoiler)[the rescue mission in the Tower of Ghenji was a fantastic and much anticipated sequence that was the perfect climax for the book。 After Mat's previous experiences with the snakes and foxes, it was great to see him get the better of them here。 (hide spoiler)]。 If there was any part of the book that dragged, it was Perrin's conflict with Galad and the Children of the Light。 While a fitting conclusion to his past dealings with the whitecloaks, it just felt a little too drawn out。 On the other hand, I do like Galad's arc in this book as well as Perrin's confrontation with Elayne。 The only other criticism I have for this book is the somewhat scrambled timelines。 This in itself isn't a problem, but much like in Crossroads of Twilight we see the climax of the last book through the eyes of different characters, and it just isn't as engaging when we already know how it plays out (luckily, we don't spend nearly as much time focusing on this as we do in book 10, so it isn't a huge issue)。 Ending on a high note, Lan's arc is brilliantly executed; I love how he both starts and finishes the book, and his final words conclude Towers of Midnight perfectly: (view spoiler)["'I am al'Lan Mandragoran, Lord of the Seven Towers, Defender of the Wall of First Fires, Bearer of the Sword of the thousand Lakes! I was once names Aan'allein, but I reject that title, for I am alone no more。 Fear me, Shadow! Fear me and know。 I have returned for what is mine。 I may be a king without a land。 But I am still a king!'。 。。。 The end had come。 They would meet it with their swords raised。" (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

I am so relieved that this series is finishing up on a strong note。 My patience was definitely tested in some earlier books, but the last three books have been engaging and stirred the same excitement I felt reading the first few books of the series。 Perrin and Faile were a lot less insufferable and Perrin was definitely redeemed in my eyes。 One book left to go and if Olver doesn't make it through until the end I will be incredibly upset! Once again, I think Sanderson did a great job with these last three books。 The story has built up so much anticipation for the last battle, that I feel like I need to read the last book right away and see it through。 When this book was released in 2010, I had it pre-ordered and read it as soon as it arrived。 This reading is only my second reading of the series, and I believe that I am enjoying it even more。 I will come away from this reading having solidified this entire series as one of my favo Once again, I think Sanderson did a great job with these last three books。 The story has built up so much anticipation for the last battle, that I feel like I need to read the last book right away and see it through。 When this book was released in 2010, I had it pre-ordered and read it as soon as it arrived。 This reading is only my second reading of the series, and I believe that I am enjoying it even more。 I will come away from this reading having solidified this entire series as one of my favorites stories of all time。 。。。more

Sanderson brings a lot of satisfying action to this one, and even more satisfying is the resolution of several of the more out-there and less satisfying plotlines, which is a relief。 He does miss a bit on some of the characters-- Mat is all of a sudden a little too smart (he's always clever, but not really smart, Berelain is disappointing, Rand is a bit overly messianic in my opinion, and of course there's no salvaging Elaine。 That being said, I think he was the perfect choice to wrap things up Sanderson brings a lot of satisfying action to this one, and even more satisfying is the resolution of several of the more out-there and less satisfying plotlines, which is a relief。 He does miss a bit on some of the characters-- Mat is all of a sudden a little too smart (he's always clever, but not really smart, Berelain is disappointing, Rand is a bit overly messianic in my opinion, and of course there's no salvaging Elaine。 That being said, I think he was the perfect choice to wrap things up and this volume does a great job of wrapping things up while getting all the pieces in place for the conclusion of book 14。 。。。more

I don't really know what to say about this series。 😅 I enjoy some chapters quite a bit, and others are totally forgettable for me。 😕 The plot is finally coming together in the last few books, so I am hoping for an explosive finish in the next one。 🤩It drove me nuts how it takes some characters over 500 pages to come to the same conclusion about 10 times。。。 If you only say it once, we get it。 😒But with so many characters running around, I understand you might want to repeat some things a lot。My f I don't really know what to say about this series。 😅 I enjoy some chapters quite a bit, and others are totally forgettable for me。 😕 The plot is finally coming together in the last few books, so I am hoping for an explosive finish in the next one。 🤩It drove me nuts how it takes some characters over 500 pages to come to the same conclusion about 10 times。。。 If you only say it once, we get it。 😒But with so many characters running around, I understand you might want to repeat some things a lot。My favourite character is absolutely Mat。。。 He at least laughs from time to time, in this world where everybody is very serious 100% of the time。 😁 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 There is so much that has happened in these last two books that it's hard to keep track of everything。 Some of the highlights in this book for me were:We see Perrin really struggle with being a wolf。 He continues to think that if he lets his wolf form take over, he will lose himself completely。 Also, when he finally excepts his roll as a leader and forges Mah'alleinir。。。That scene when Rand sees his father and says he's sorry for almost killing him in TGS was amazing。 We find out that Graendal a There is so much that has happened in these last two books that it's hard to keep track of everything。 Some of the highlights in this book for me were:We see Perrin really struggle with being a wolf。 He continues to think that if he lets his wolf form take over, he will lose himself completely。 Also, when he finally excepts his roll as a leader and forges Mah'alleinir。。。That scene when Rand sees his father and says he's sorry for almost killing him in TGS was amazing。 We find out that Graendal and Lanfear are actually still alive。。。for now。 I loved seeing Nynaeve pass the 100 weaves to become an Aes Sedai。The Trolloc attack on Maradon was probably one of the best battles since Helms Deep in lord of the rings。We also have a lot of great scenes with Mat, including him losing an eye when he and Thom go to save Moiraine。 And then when Olvar opens the letter that Mat has been carrying around and they see what is truly in it。。。oh man。 What a way to end it off。 I'm almost sad that this series is coming to an end。 Some of the books have their flaws, but overall I have enjoyed reading The Wheel of Time。 。。。more

Wow。 All I can say is that this is definitely the most action packed wheel of time book so far。 SO much happens in this book and it has amazing callbacks to other events from other books。 So many characters reunite and you can feel their love for each other。 I cant believe next stop is the very last one。 This series has really become a part of me and I know I’m going to feel really bittersweet after finishing A Memory of Light!!!
